ONG, the SGI laptop still lives!

#1 Post by automobus » Fri Sep 23, 2011 2:34 pm

In one of the very first discussions I read when I joined the forum, a SGI laptop was mentioned. That is how I first heard of it.

It is the only good-looking laptop keyboard I have ever seen. It is the first thing I referred to in the "ThinkPad of your dream" discussion.

Well, it is still around! Someone on Nekochan has it, and even took a picture of what's under the keyboard. You all should have a look. This machine is legendary. The polar opposite of computers today.

(topic title inspired by http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=91302; and it so happens that the SGI monitor mentioned in this thread, appears on the desk with the SGI laptop)

What on earth is this, really?

Judging from its internals, it looks to me like a home made piece of equipment. But from the exitement, I imagine this is a lot more than that. :)

It's an SGI workstation in a laptop form factor.

Very sweet machine for old school geeks like me.

Portable IRIX on native hardware.
