X131e help

#1 Post by axmaxwell » Thu Oct 24, 2019 8:19 pm

Realblackstuff I understand if you have to shut this thread down.

My situation: I purchased a for parts Lenovo x131e on eBay with the hopes of refurbishing it and using it as a personal laptop. It did not have ram, a hard drive, the bottom cover, the battery, or the charger, but the screen appear to be in good condition and the motherboard was not damaged. So I bought it.

fast forward to today the charger finally came in the mail and I plugged it in. I had thrown in a verified working Windows 7 hard drive from my old Lenovo x230t to test boot it, and lo and behold it has a BIOS password. I asked on 4chan and somebody recommend I contact the previous owner but they are a reseller I doubt they would have the BIOS password if they even know what that is.

Could I contact Lenovo customer service and ask them about it? is there any legal way to unlock this device or did I spend $100 on a brick?

Through Lenovo (IF they are even willing to help you and IF they still have that part) you will only hear: replace the motherboard/planar at some horrendous fantasy-price.
Instead look for a cheapie with working motherboard, such as this: https://www.ebay.ie/itm/163915224283
Passwords can be removed, and it is for me to know and for you to find out how.
But as you are aware, this 'how' cannot be discussed on the Forum.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
