On my old ThinkPad 1400 series machine, I could press down on the red-capped pointing stick to cause a click action (like left click on a mouse.) Can this action be enabled on my new X120e? I have searched the forums and documents and do not see an answer.

That feature was missing on the X100, I'm almost sure it's the same on the x120

I am pretty sure I have never seen that feature, or known it existed if it did. Using probably my 12th Thinkpad or so now, going back to 1997 or so.

I know press-to-click was common on the Dell copycat pointing device. I don't recall it being heavily used (or used at all) in any of my ThinkPads.

Then again, I've been proven wrong before.

Thanks for the replies. My 10-year-old Think Pad was a 1421 model, if I remember correctly. It had only a pointing stick, no track pad or click keys, and you could press or double press the pointing stick for clicks.

I have talked to several people who have not seen this feature. I assume it was done away with long ago when they started including other ways of clicking.

when (and still may be) the tap to click was implemented it required a TAP to click..
in my experience the act of tapping the pointing stick also would move it a bit..

the 1421 was a thinkpad (i forget the series name) made in taiwan and some had audio controls on the front edge..
it was made to a budget target and might not have had a fully enhanced trackpoint..

still it was a hardy thinkpad but bigger than the T series..

That feature is definitely missing on X100, Edge 11 and lookalike, already discussed many times, even with some lenovo people on the official forum.

My T43 has that feature - you can tap / double tap the trackpoint instead of using the clicker below it. I think it was just a setting in synaptics...

My X200s has it, my X200t had it too. But was missing on my X100e and Edge 11 even using the exact same driver.

Not sure if it's because an HW limit or because purposely disabled on synaptic drivers. All in all the feature is missing.

This issue is seriously angering me. There are many people who don't even know this feature ever existed but also a few - including myself - who knew and loved it. I have been buying thinkpads for years and at one point the feature just disappeared. It became impossible to tell before buying whether a laptop would have it or not - at least for the uninitiated.

My spouse used Edge 11 for a year - it didn't have this. And when it finally refused to work (a couple days after the warranty ran out) I went to look for a new machine. Of course, Edge 11 had been discontinued already. I was excited to find in the Lenovo official detailed specifications for the X121e that it did indeed have press-to-select (link: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloa ... D=PD015763). The plasticky look and feel even compared to the Edge 11 didn't particularly inspire her but we were on a budget and in urgent need of a small machine so I told her - hey it might not be so cute as your previous laptop but at least it has the press-to-select you've been missing.

So guess what, I bought that thing. It doesn't have press-to-select. Not with the driver it shipped with, not with the newest one. Thank you Lenovo for screwing me over yet again.
