I bought an X120e for my wife and I was surprised to see CoreTemp reporting the normal operating temperature at 60C. Is this normal for an X120e?

For most thinkpads, I try to ran them between 70-80C. As for what is normal, it depends what you consider normal. A thinkpad can run at 100C when playing intensive games and that's expected temperature. If your thinkpad constantly runs at 90C when it's at rest then I would say there is something wrong with it. Also it depends what version of 120e do you have.

I have the E350 version. 'Normal' for me is mostly web browsing on Chrome with several tabs open. I was concerned because my Acer runs at around 40-50 C

60C is more than fine. You could probably get a tpfancontrol app and increase the temp to 75 to decrease the fan noise.
