Who here has an x131e Intel Core-i3 model?
Who here has an x131e Intel Core-i3 model?
My x120e went on the blink after I accidentally stepped on it (screen appears to have been messed up), and I'm looking for a replacement.
I was thinking of either a tablet, or just the x131e, since I sometimes do work that requires a teensy bit of power (but not too much) where I use this machine (in bed, mostly).
The x120e I had seemed peppy enough when I bought it, but after a year or two, seemed to slow waaaay down, and I don't know why (this was the dual-core AMD model). It also got really hot and the fan was on constantly. I wouldn't have minded the latter, if there'd been even an ounce of power to it. And I had already pepped it up as much as I could with a fast SSD and 8gb memory.
So is there anyone where who has an x131e, hopefully one that's been maxed out like this with SSD and 8gb memory, and can tell me if it's reasonably fast? I don't mean for games or anything, I just mean boots reasonably fast, doesn't take forever to do anything, etc. That AMD chip was dog-slow.

I have an x131e with a Celeron, SSD and 4GB and it boots incredibly fast on Windows 8. I've been using it for my basic everyday tasks without problem.

Thanks much! I'm surprised, looking around, for reviews of this model or people talking about owning one, and have found very few; I wonder if it's not a good seller.fmcsimmons wrote:I have an x131e with a Celeron, SSD and 4GB and it boots incredibly fast on Windows 8. Yes I have found the same thing. Of course it is targeted toward K-12 education. It is essentially a netbook, howbeit a very nice netbook indeed.

Well, I bought it and received it. Bit heavier and clunkier than I like, but since this one will be next to my bed, it should resist getting squashed like the x120e I accidentally stepped on.fmcsimmons wrote:Yes I have found the same thing. Seems to run rather speedily. I put in a fast SSD (Samsung 840 Pro 256gb, probably overkill), and it runs well.

I just got mine.. order it with a 500gb hd and swap to a samsung 840pro ssd.. Pretty nice so far.
The only thing is lack of led status.. ie caps lock, etc, still exploring the unit.. its not bad.

Hope you enjoy it - I'm pretty happy with mine so far; the SSD definitely sped it up (interesting you chose the same SSD model as I did )... it is generally behaving nicely. It'd be nice if it were as slim as other Thinkpads, if it had the indicator lights you mention (including disc activity light) and a Thinklight, but in general it's a decent machine.rsutoratosu wrote:I just got mine.. order it with a 500gb hd and swap to a samsung 840pro ssd.. I hope it lasts me a long time and doesn't slow to a (relative) crawl like my x120e had.
