Activitng the unknown 2nd core.......

#1 Post by DavyKrawkt » Tue Sep 10, 2013 7:43 pm

Just became a member on your site in the hopes someone out there has come across a way to do an interesting upgrade... have had the laptop a couple years and love it.....
While digging around on the internet about the ThinkPad x120e with the 240 (single core processor) which I find out is really a (dual core)....I came across and interesting article explaining that the way they kept the price down on the 240 was by not activating the 2nd core...
So since these are made with a 2nd core does anyone know of a way to turn it on ????
Thanks
Dave

Ah, the old unlock trick. I used to do it with the sempron/phenom/athlons back in the day. I doubt it can be done on a x120e however since the bios lacks the unlock feature.

Besides, even if it were possible, the second core is most likely unstable. The unlockable cpu's were mostly made from defective cpus. And the x120e doesnt have the bios settings to adjust voltage.
