Change screen to lower resolution

Hi folks

The screen on my X120e is very horrible; terrible colors, gets dirty very easily, and there are scuffs on the laptop. I also very dislike the 1366x768 resolution, it just messes with my OCD and the content on youtube and the likes always looks terribly scaled on this specific resolution (1080p downscaled or 720p upscaled, both don't look good).

I was thinking of getting a 1280*720 screen as a replacement. At this size it would look fine and it would drain the battery less. Also, i would get a nicer panel for good colors since the laptop will be used as a travel device paired with a digital camera.

It wouldn't be an official FRU part so i don't know if it exists :/ has anyone done this in the past, use an unsupported screen in a ThinkPad?

Two other questions :

1. Do you think it's a good idea to downscale the resolution?

2. Where can i get a replacement panel for this laptop? Can i get one from previous or newer version?

Thanks!

X120e has this same LCD, BUT WITH extra TOUCH: http://www.panelook.com/LP116WH1-TLP1_L ... 13810.html
Found here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/122946692849

Good luck finding a same-size same-pinout 40-pin 1280x720 touch-screen.
Check Chromebook screenss from e.g. Acer or HP.

1280x720 screens are almost exclusively for DVD players and TVs. Hence, they are only made in sizes that would fit such devices: 10.1", 10.2", 10.5", 12.8", 15", 17", 22" not the standard 11.6", 12.5" 13.3", 14", 15.6", 17.3"

Info from panelook.

Can you set the resolution to just 1280x720? If yes, does the LCD scale it to fill the entire screen area or not?

TPs have had screen scaling built in since 1995. The last laptops were Compaqs pre-'96 which couldnt screen scale. Also, what about windows scaling?

In older models, the BIOS had an option to enable/disable screen expansion. I don't know if the X120e does, but I doubt it.

[censored].

Kinda seems like i'm stuck with 1366*768.

Unless there's anything else that would fit really. 1600*900? Hell i'd even go with non-HD if i could i mean i hate 1366*768 with a passion.

Thanks.
