X120e Memory Efficiency
X120e Memory Efficiency
Coming to a mailbox near me soon are two 8Gb SODIMMs for one of my two X120e's. Both currently have 8Gb so one of them gets a boost to 16Gb. One is running a Linux Ubuntu-load of ZorinOS 15. The other has a fresh load of Windows 10. The question is -- which one would benefit more from the extra RAM? Linux is supposedly notoriously famous for being able to run lots of applications in their own VM's on small memory. But Windows also loves a huge sandbox to play in.

Re: X120e Memory Efficiency
If I were to choose, put it on the one with Windows 10 installed, as it's a known memory hog compared to Linux.

Re: X120e Memory Efficiency
Which is what I did. It's still slow, that old processor just needs it's gerbils fed more. But more memory can't hurt if I use it for anything serious.axur-delmeria wrote: ↑Mon Apr 27, 2020 3:56 amIf I were to choose, put it on the one with Windows 10 installed, as it's a known memory hog compared to Linux.

Re: X120e Memory Efficiency
1. You're expecting too much from the X120e's netbook-class processor.
2. Upgrade to an SSD if you haven't already.

Done in the first restoration, and that helped a bit.

Re: X120e Memory Efficiency
Well, you've maxed it out in every way possible. Can't get any faster than that.

Re: X120e Memory Efficiency
Well, silly me but the way to make a X120e faster is to retrograde it. My 16GB model runs Win10 and is a pig. I retrograded my ZorinOS version with a different SSD and put Win7 on it, and it's much faster than the other one, even at just 8GB. I always liked Win7 and never had an issue with it. Heck, I might even try WinXP.
