Hi,
do any of you guys have information about when the X100e Dual Core Models will be released and what the price difference between those and the Single Core ones will be?
I didn't find anything via Google.
Regards,
amue

Just as a heads up - a new tabook is said to be published sometime today (no idea about the timezone though), maybe it'll have those new models in there. (tabook.pdf from
http://www.lenovo.com/psref/.)
Kind regards,
Ben

Thanks, but there's nothing in there about the DC models. Guess we'll have to be patient for another while.

The lenovo's canadian site just posted dual core models. but the prices aren't set yet. base price is at 10K. have to wait for them to fix it.

Of course they did... I just received mine today. If you'd like one quickly in the US, check out Fry's web site. I had one on order with Lenovo with a Ship date of 3/12. Ordered from Fry's last night at 8:30PM EST. got overnight shipping.. using my soon to be outdated single core machine.
First observations... love it versus my Dell Mini-9. A keyboard I can actually use, silent, great screen. It's a mini-me to my W510. I tend to use this just for surfing the net and simple email so I'll keep it. Fry's only had black ones for $449. I added 4GB memory.. It runs nicely so far.

check out my SSD installation videos and performance reivews of the single core x100e over at the "upgrades and performance" thread.
I love the x100e and wouldn't consider the dual core model, battery life is sure to suffer even more. With the out of order processing nature of the MV-40 and an Intel SSD with 4GB of Gskill memory, this thing flies. VERY DURABLE and RELIABLE with a solid state disk. This thing is bulletproof.

Are you running 64bit or 32bit Window 7. I'm sitting with mine with a reasonable brightness on the screen on Win 7 x86(32bit) 4GB Ram, 160GB drive and nothing else touch yet. Longest Battery life chosen says 3:40 left @ 11 watts.. not bad.. better than my Dell Mini 9 and !!! I CAN TYPE ON IT !!!
to me, typing is much more important than battery. I can always find an outlet.. can't always reduce the size of my hotdog like fingers.

Lenovo's Australian site has also posted dual core models.
Code: Select all
Processor
AMD Athlon Neo Single-Core MV-40 (1.6GHz, 800MHz, 512KB L2)
AMD Athlon Neo X2 L335 [add AU$93.50]
AMD Athlon Neo X2 L625 [add AU$126.50]
However, when selected the total price jumps to over $11K. So, it seems that these models are not actually available yet. However, if the price difference is correct, dual core models won't be significantly more expensive than the single core model.
Cheers,

The price on Lenovo's Australian site no longer jumps to over $11K when the dual-core model is selected. WWAN is also now an option. So, it seems the dual-core models are now available, at least for Australian customers.

I can see them on the lenovo site.

Admittedly, I'm wondering what's a better bet at this point. A used, but good condition X60/61 or a brand new dual core X100e. The new keyboard looks nice and has great reviews, and now that the X100 dual core, it can theoretically compete with the dual core, but older generation X60/61 units. They weigh roughly the same amount, but the X60/61 has the larger screen. OTOH, the X100e has the advantage of being brand new with Windows 7 pre-installed. It's one thing to spend $200 on a used laptop, but $500 to 700 is a different situation with higher opportunity costs...

I would never even consider a used X61 in comparison with a refurbished X200. Those can be had direct from Lenovo for prices in the $700 range.
How long can you get support for an X61? I've always been a bit baffled by how to add on support packages for used/outlet items on the Lenovo site. Can you even buy a Lenovo warranty for an X61? If not, there's another reason not to get it IMHO.
I don't think the dual core X100e models are a good buy. They jack up the price so much you might as well get an X200.

When the option for the dual-cores came up, I went ahead and made the purchase that day, going with the L625 option. Good thing too since now they don't allow the L625 unless you get 2GB RAM, Gobi WWAN and 250 GB HD....though I did opt to max out the RAM at 4GB since it would have only saved me $10-20 buying the RAM from another vendor.
I currently have a ship date of April 23rd.

You're right about the X200 refurbs, but isn't there a nearly $400 difference between the X100 and X200? That's a bit of a leap given that the X100 is basically designed for ThinkPad users that want a netbook with ThinkPad features, and admittedly a lot of the people in that market are very price conscious?

I wrote, "I don't think the dual core X100e models are a good buy. They jack up the price so much you might as well get an X200." That's just what I meant. You can spend $719 on an L625 dual core X100e, or $700+ on a refurbed X200. I know which one I'd pick.

I made an error and presumed that you were comparing a new X100e to a new X200 which in retrospect was silly on my part. FWIW, I'm leaning toward the the X100e with Athlon X2 dual core processor. Admittedly, a used X60 does look good in comparison at that price, but like with the X200, it may come down to one's preference in sizes (11.6" vs 12.1"), the desire to have a brand new machine versus slightly used and/or refurbished, the new keyboard style, and Windows 7 versus Vista or XP.

Your reasoning of why one would want an x100 over a refurbished x200, or even a new x201 is exactly why I went with an x100 dual core. I absolutely wanted Windows 7 Pro and did not want to bother with an upgrade to the OS, though I will admittedly be putting the x64 version on it.
In addition, what I really wanted was an x201s. However due to my preferences, I could not justify spending ~$1,800+ on a machine featuring certain design compromises such as no on-board digital video out (HDMI or preferably Displayport). In the meantime, until Lenovo builds a proper Thinkpad with the features I'm looking for, I don't mind spending < $1,000 for the x100. I could have also gone to another manufacturer, but its simply not an option because no other manufacturer features the Thinkpad trackpoint and press to scroll middle button.

I had posted about this before elsewhere- I had really wanted an X100e dual core but didn't want to wait (this was back in January). Also, i ended up getting an X200 new in box for low $700's off of ebay. I was attracted to the X100e's compact size but there's only about a 1 inch difference in width so the X200 was not that much bigger. The biggest sell for me was battery life- even with my X200 dual core, I consistently get 7-8 hrs of battery life (that's with 3G on all the time). The combination of battery life and price and the wait for the x100e made me go with the x200.
I hope the x100e does great however, and am awaiting people's reviews on the dual core versions. Maybe if I didn't have the long wait I would have gone with the x100e, but I have to say I'm awfully happy and impressed with the x200. It's hands down the bes tlaptop I've ever had (this is about my 7th one, the Sony Vaio VGN Sz was a close second, but the x200 kills it on battery life and physical durability/ruggedness).
But all in all both look like pretty cool machines. I think the X100e owners will be happy also.

The dual core models will actually get better battery life on average.

I'm not so sure. I remember reading recently about a 3 watt TDP increase with a dual core (not sure which of the two dual core models it was).

I dont see the config to order option being available. Where do you see this? Also, an X201 i3 runs $850. $750 for the pre built "top seller" X100e dual core is a no go IMO.

Wow, an X100e for $300+ is a steal. Where did you find that?
I agree that some of the prices on Lenovo's website don't make much sense. But from what I understand the L335 offers most of the performance of the L625, so especially with channel pricing it might be a pretty good deal. Especially if someone has bought one for $308 or so it's a great deal.
GrandMasterKhan, where can you order an X201 i3? I may get one soon if I can source one at that price, as with support added it should come in around $1000, a pretty good deal.

Our company has a contract with lenovo that was what it was priced at. You could do a barebones single core one for ~250. I was considering this but ended up opting for the dual core version. I think there was a 20 dollar difference between the 512kb and 1mb versions of the Dual Core Processor. The real deal is the single core version.

Well, after just over a month's wait, my dual-core (L625) X100e arrived yesterday

Everything, seems to work well, including the WWAN module. Shopping around for a SSD now and want to upgrade to Windows 7 64-bit to take advantage of the 4GB memory.
Are there any performance benchmarks that people would like me to run?
Cheers,

Battery life when in power source optimized, doesn't have to be exact, just a ballpark figure.
PCMark for cpu test, i'm trying to find my old copy so we can compare with single core.
Also I had bought an Intel X-25v for my x100e but I liked it so much I kept it on my desktop. Only 40gb but the speed and price are so worth it.

I'll have to run through a few cycles to report on battery life. First cycle I got around 3 hours, but I was running PassMark benchmark on full power a few times. The performance of the Radeon HD3200 under Windows 7 seems lower than expected. Will have to see about other benchmarks. In power source optimized, the screen is too dim on default settings, so I've been using the energy star power profile.
Likes so far:
- solid feed
- keyboard
- screen resolution
- smooth 720p YouTube playback (1080p stutters though, but is pretty much overkill for the screen resolution)
Dislikes so far:
- no indicator lights for HDD, WiFi, Bluetooth, WWAN, caps lock, num lock.
- 5400 rpm hard disk (soon to be SSD)
- screen gamma seems high by default
- vertical viewing angles aren't great
Let me know which version of PCMark to download and run.
Cheers,

Can't find my copy of pcmark2005, downloaded the demo but apparently one of the tests always fail and it wouldn't give me any results. Have to look into it more.
I agree with pretty much all of your points, had my single core for about a month. Gamma at .50 instead of default 1.0, tried just messing with calibration, but reverted it to default and just adjusted the gamma. Also, the osd seems to lag a bit for me, not all the time, but it seems to be affected by load, very different from my x41 with hardware buttons for volume.
