Anyone tried to load a 64-bit OS onto their X100e? If so, any issues?

Running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate here & so far no issues.

Is it possible to obtain a 64bit Windows 7 Pro disc/recovery disc(s) from Lenovo after purchasing a x100e with 32bit Win 7 Pro? Mine will come from the factory with 4GB of ram...

Not sure. I'd say go ahead and contact Lenovo and ask. Worst they can say is "no" or they might charge you a ~$40 - $50 for the discs. If you do, please let us all know. I used a Windows 7 Pro 64-bit ISO image I had from MS Technet with the product key on the COA on the X100e (pull the battery and look in the battery "cavity" left behind on the X100e in case anyone can't find it). Had to use phone activation as online did not work.

In the past I have read about Thinkpad owners using the Anywhere Upgrade disk and the MSFT license to switch from 32-bit to 64-bit for the same OS ie Vista Pro 32 to Vista Pro 64 just as an example. But this was in the Vista era. Not sure if it comforms with Microsoft's desires though and never tried it.

I have a Windows 7 Anytime Upgrade disc, which has all versions of Windows 7, 32 and 64 bit. It works quite well. If the key gives you trouble when installing, I'd suggest not putting it in until after you're done installing Windows. You can then change the key to the correct key like your COA key and then activate it. Any key should work for the corresponding version of 32 or 64 bit Windows 7. I've done this quite a few times. It hasn't failed yet.

AFAIK there isn't a recovery disk for the X100e, (only xp home, seven starter/home premium/professional).

BTW you can easily install from a plain x64 seven media, using the activation key provided with your notebook.

Make sure you copy the SWTOOLS folder. That is where Lenovo usually puts all the programs that are not downloadable from the support site. Those are *.*exe files so just need to copy and use the vanilla Mister Softee OS disk and you are good to go braddah.

As with all ThinkPads these days, you'll need to make the recovery discs, which means you'll need to find an external drive to do it.

Can install via USB. MSFT even has software tools for it.

Yes, this is how I've installed on my gf's Toshiba Netbook, test install on my x100e, and even on my desktop because its a lot faster than installing from optical drive.

Obviously one has to build it's own recovery media, and this its not limited to lenovo, although lenovo has started before the others with this practice.

BTW what I mean (my English is poor, I know) is that Lenovo can ship the original installation media, but (at the moment at least) they are only available on 32 flavors, this may change in the future, if the already crowded list of X100 SKUs, will get some new members.
