display hard drive spinning on X100e (Like on my T42)

Hi,
This is my first time on this board. I hope you can help me. I just bought a X100e (with the single core processor) and I want to know if there is anyway I can display (or see) on the taskbar (or anywhere else) if the hard drive is spinning. I have a T42 laptop and you can see when the hard drive is spinning. I would like to see that also on my X100e since it happens many times that I am waiting if anything is happening. If I can watch the hard drive spinning, than I know that whatever I am loading is not finished.
Thanks
Abe

Hi Abe,

Welcome to the forum! What software are you using on the T42 that displays hard drive activity? You could probably install the same on your new X100e. Something like this guide might help.

A hard drive is normally spinning all the time. The HDD indicator under the LCD of your T42 shows the hard drive activity, when the system reads or writes anything to the drive.

I don't have an X100e but it seems to lack this feature. You will need to find some software that emulates a hard drive access LED on the screen, for example in Windows system tray (next to the clock in the right lower corner).

Something like this for instance:

But the ThinkVantage Active Protection System system tray icon should be telling you what the HDD is doing already. Don't you have that installed? It protects your HDD in the event of a fall.

The APS icon tells you if the drive is spinning or is paused. It doesn't tell you if the drive is reading/writing, like the hard drive LED does.

I got DiskLED installed on my x100e and it's a pretty neat program, definitely helped me out since the machine has no hardware LED nor does my SSD make any noise.
