X100e on battery stutters watching a video on you tube

#1 Post by acwertheim » Sat May 29, 2010 5:28 pm

Hi,
I have a x100e single core cpu. When I run it on the battery and watch ay ou tube video it stops many times during the video (looks like it catches its breath). But when I run the x100e with the power cord plugged in you tube runs fine.
Is there something I can do to remedy this?
I also noted that running on the battery my wireless connection drops many times and not at all when the unit is plugged in.
Can somebody help?
Thanks
Abe

Regarding the stuttering videos, likely what is happening is that hardware flash acceleration is not enabled, and the processor can't keep up in battery mode due to your processor settings. To fix your problem, either download the appropriate Catalyst driver (perhaps also needing to use mobilitymodder as detailed elsewhere in these forums), and download the latest Flash software which includes software acceleration. Another remedy is to bump up your processor speed in battery mode, but that will degrade your battery life (I personally don't care about youtube that much and would never make such a choice).

Regarding the dropped connections, they are likely due to power management settings. Change your configuration and test the settings. You can try changing the amount of power supplied to the adapter on battery, as well as whether the adapter is turned off in battery mode.

The X100e has already got pretty disappointing battery life (the only thing stopping me from getting one at the moment). Instead of adjusting your power options, I do what jvarszegi suggested, and make sure you have the latest graphics drivers and Flash version installed.

Regarding your wifi dropped connections, your power options will be telling your wifi card to go into power saving mode when on battery. To optimise wifi performance, install InSIDDer and make sure that you are not using a congested channel which your neighbours are using.
