Order an x100e dual core

This past saturday I ordered an x100e dual core. I have been a mac user for a while and have been running bootcamp with windows vista on my macbook pro. It hasn't been running windows too well and with more usage of my laptop at work started searching around for a light quality windows machine. x100e seemed to fit the bill, I have always liked thinkpad build quality so placed an order on 6/5. One question I have only other option I chose was win7 pro.I was thinking of un-installing that and putting on the x64 version of it. Also have an extra 1gb ddr2 ram piece that I was also going to put in. Any suggestions on doing the x64 install? I don't want to loose all the thinkvantage stuff as well as the think login screen etc. Also how long does it usually take lenovo to ship out their machines? They have given me an estimate of 6/18. Thanks guys an I enjoy becoming an avid forum member here. :D

I had ordered for the x100e on 6 June and my order status was showing "In Process" all this while and an estimated delivery date of 6/18; until now, today I got an email that my order has been shipped  Lets see when I get it, I am hoping it would be before 18 June. Will let you know.

Thanks! Looks like we ordered just a day apart so hopefully mine had shipped too. I wonder hoe accurate they are at updating their order tracking pages.

i too am a mac guy, and ordered a dual core L635 x100e. i placed my order on the afternoon of 6/2 [pst], never got a confirmation email, but was shipped from shanghai two days ago, ups just delivered it to my door an hour ago.

just hunting for a 64bit iso right now so i can upgrade to 64bit. also picked up a 7200rpm HDD since the stock 5400rpm is not to my liking. would've gone with an ssd, but tooooo pricey just yet.

See the first reply to this topic (The Solutor)... on page 3, there's a post which says "Finding a true ISO file"

I haven't tested it yet (by burning and booting), but I was able to take the X15-65733.iso, loopback mount it rw (it ignores this) on my linux machine, remount it rw again (-o remount,rw) and rm the ei.cfg (not required, I suppose, since it's home/premium anyways)

got it, thanks. completely setup with a new HDD and new 64 bit win 7 pro... thanks to the forums for the help in getting my usb flash stick to be a bootable drive.

fyi, all the drivers from the lenovo site work perfectly...

Do you feel as if the machine is faster with win 7 pro x64? Or about the same as the x86 version?

Not big differences in the average use, but some sw can be a lot of faster as compression sw like winrar/7zip, or some multimedia transcoding sw.

i agree with the_solutor about certain applications. mainly, i wanted to utilize all the RAM that came on the machine [4Gb, but they only put 32 bit on it???]. i mainly use my machine for web dev and IE testing, so this machine works perfectly for me. i've not done any true testing to validate my thoughts regarding 32bit vs 64bit on this machine. had zero issues with the 32 bit, and have had zero issues with the 64bit...

i've also got dual boot ubuntu because i miss my cli so much and nothing in windows comes close. nor virtual desktops...

Congrats on your purchase. I just got my Dual core earlier this week. With regard to some of your questions:

I placed my order on 5/23. It sat "In Process" until it shipped on 6/01, and I finally received it the evening of 6/8. So allow at least two to two-and-a-half calendar weeks for delivery. Lenovo ships all of their orders in what appear to be biweekly batches of several hundred. Mine came in a batch of 400 others. They have to clear customs in Kentucky, which usually takes about 1-3 business days before they're released to UPS for delivery.

When I got mine, I wiped everything on the primary partition and re-installed 7 x64 with my product key normally from a modified retail disk. I had to install all the drivers from scratch, but luckily, Lenovo generously provides every little thing on their website, it'll just take you a bit of time. My drivers are the latest official release from ATI for the video, and I installed Flash 10.1 after getting Chrome running. One thing I can say, is that the video acceleration is incredibly impressive. It will handle the raw MPEG4 files off of my 5D Mark II at full speed in WMP, once Shark007's codec pack and x64 components are installed (this is a must-have, I highly recommend it). Win7 will automatically install the UltraNav settings for the TrackPoint and trackpad, I believe.

One word of caution, without the Thinkvantage Power Manager, you'll notice some wonky charging behavior without any means to control it, so this is also a must. Hope this helps, and hope you enjoy it!

Thanks for all the replies guys! I think I'll still go ahead and install win 7 pro x64 to be able to utilize the full processor potential when I need to. Finally got a tracking number at like 12am last night. UPS tracking website said I should have it by the 16th. Can't wait! :D

Well after being delayed by UPS I finally got mine on the 18th! I really like the size and the keyboard is awesome. Its a speedy little machine too. I decided to just stick with the 32 bit and not mess with upgrading to the 64 bit win 7 pro, just don't want to have to spend time piddling with it when I could be using it and being productive. :D
