Hi All,
i'm new here and have just ordered my x100e after wanting one since about December.

I just want to prepare for its arrival and want to ask for some advice regarding drivers and other software to install when i get it.

Obviiously i should update all drivers to the latest versions on the Lenovo website (unles there are any problems with any that anyone can tell me about??)

Also is there anything else current users would recommend?

Are there any third party drivers/etc that people are using? e.g. I see that some people are using ATi catalyst drivers should i install them?

If someone could post a list of recommendations i would be very grateful

I take the opposite view regarding the drivers. I only update when I have something that needs fixing. If it ain't broke why fix it? It's been my experience updates are more likely to cause something to fail than actually fix a problem, though I'm probably in the minority on this one.

Before you get all anal about everything, how about you just enjoy it for a bit? C'mon, it's a new toy. Have some fun with it. Congrats on the machine and welcome to TPF.

I agree with Fred, if the stock drivers are not causing problems then you don't have to update it, unless it has been confirmed to have improved performance.

Really, buying a laptop is not like buying a car or house, there isn't a list of items you need to take care of before you can use it. I enjoy my x100e out of the box, and I wish you will too!

If you have read the treads about ati drivers you must have also read why the upgrade is strongly suggested...

So what's the question ?

Btw, to summarize, is strongly suggested to install the latest wifi driver from windows update, the latest ati drivers from ati site.

Is also strongly suggested to not upgrade the wired ethernet driver.

For the not mentioned drivers just follow what lenovo updater suggests.

Starting since yesterday the new flash plugin is out of beta stage, so just update it from the usual place.

I just want to second the previous comment: make sure you have the latest ATi graphics driver and Adobe Flash Player 10.1 final, if you want to make sure that Flash video is hardware accelerated, without using CPU cycles.

Thanks all for your replies- i've just got home and its waiting in its box here for me (super fast delivery from Oyyy (in the UK) (promised early next week- so now i have a weekend of fun!)

i asked because i read something about someone patching some ATi drivers and got a bit confused.

I've been around computers long enough to know that some updates can cause terrible issues! But i've also been subject to hardware needing updates straight out of the box to make it work properly/better - i refer most recently to my Sony Ericsson Satio......... if anyone else has/had one of these you'll know what i mean!!!!


taking the computer out of the box, it strikes me how much thinnner it is that my old Asus EEE 1000. It is also very professional/beautiful! nice quality, and NO [censored] GLOSS !

It was the LACK of gloss that above all drew me to this beauty- any manufacturers/designers reading this TAKE NOTE! A LOT OF US OUT HERE HATE HATE HATE GLOSSY FINISHES (especially screens))

Patching is not needed anymore (at least for win7 drivers), just download the mobility drivers and install them.

Here you have the whole scenario, some drivers are neuthral, same will improve greatly the performances, and one will lead to random freezes.

Nevermind, something is changed just today.

The ethernet problem is fixed by a bios update

An updated wifi driver is now present via lenovo update.


So the suggestions are less complicated.

Just update your bios to version 1.25

run the lenovo updater and do what it suggests.

install manually the ati driver and flash activex and/or plugin.

absolutely loving this machine.

Its everything i wanted and absolutely perfect.
The only (extreeeemely slight) issue is the heat coming out the left hand side, but thats way off set by the perfectness of this machine!
