External display via VGA blurry

#1 Post by ad2015tokyo3 » Sun Oct 10, 2010 10:45 am

Anyone notice this too?

I've seen this on my X100e (2876 3QA), and two other units in a Lenovo
retail store.

I've noticed this when first trying out the laptop on my external display (hp w2228h 1680x1050).
There was something wrong with the image i was looking at. The text in the menus,
the text in a text editor, they looked blurry. On an old laptop i'm still using,
it's crisp, just perfect imho.

I was new to win7, and I had win7 pro 32bit on my X100e, and I figured it might
be a setting like cleartype. I tried a live USB fedora 10, and I still notice the blur.

I've tried on an old samsung 1440x900 LCD, and a 22" 1080p viewsonic (2233 model I think)
LCD, and the blurriness remains (though less evident on the 1080p screen).

I was then ready to go to the Lenovo store to find out if it's just a problem with my unit.
I then decided to try out DPT 3.0 (dead pixel tester).

You can clearly see horizontal noise on hash1 and hash2 using DPT.

I went to the Lenovo retail store, and there it exhibited the same annoyance on
their own LCDs, and worse, on two similar units with win7 + DPT. A Lenovo desktop
connected via a VGA cable to the same LCD didn't exhibit the horizontal noise with
DPT.

The drivers was completely updated from lenovo (8.66x) when I've done a lot of the
testing. Now, I'm on AMD's 10.8 driver package, but no difference in this issue.

Don't get me wrong, this was not enough of an issue for me to return the laptop,
but mainly working with text on it with an external monitor is going to be a chore.

I wonder if Lenovo or AMD will be able to fix this issue with a software update.
I can only hope so.

You need to set the video on the X100e to the native screen size of the monitor to get the best performance.

... and then hit the auto adjustment button on the external LCD.

I feel silly.

All the things i've done, and i've read about using the LCDs auto adjustment
somewhere... maybe here.

Yeah, the auto adjust on my hp LCD did the trick. clear text, clean on DPT, too.

Thanks guys!

Better than the local retail store people I might add, but then again, even I forgot
the auto adjust O:-)
