I've had my x100e for about a week. During the past few days I've been experiencing random shutdowns on the machine. The computer completely shuts itself off. I suspect the reason is heat related because of how warm the computer feels to the touch. I've had a T43 in the past that ran really hot but I think I could literally cook on this little thing. As a result, I ran CPUID HWmonitor and discovered that my core temps are averaging around 94-96 deg c.

Is there anything I can do to resolve this issue or is it going to have to be returned for repair at age 1 week? Thanks in advance.

Unless you are blocking the vents on the bottom of the X100e (using it on a blanket or pillow would do it)...it sounds like you need to call Lenovo service.

I always make sure the side left vent is clear from anything - however, I do use it on my lap or a firm pillow next to me. Should I not be able to do that? That would really be a bummer. Thanks again

Hate to break the news to you...but the pillow is blocking the vents. The vent on the side is the hot air exhaust vent for the CPU and the vents on the bottom is the intake for cool air.

so essentially what you are saying is that this $500+ netbook has to be used on a hard surface? I was happy with this little machine - now I might just send it back. what a disappointment.

so after a bit more studying of this machine and it's temps - I noticed that when it is put under any sort of load, even when on a hard flat surface so the intake ports are clear that my temps still hit well above 90 degrees c. I guess this little guy is going back to be repaired. Thanks for your input.

That's weird, my X100e can handle MW2 without overheating. Have you considered undervolting with RMClock?

It's possible that your heatsink is loose and not properly distributing heat away from the CPU/GPU.

Wow, I thought me running Starcraft II on it was pushing it, but MW2 runs on it?

I know right? I have the single core variant too. ^_^

I use my x100e (turion L625) on a pillow or blanket or wherever, and the hottest the cpu has gotten was ~70C according to CoreTemp. And thats while running youtube videos for 20+minutes.
I usually average at ~32C to ~50C during normal web surfing and multitasking without videos.
I think its safe to say that your machine is faulty and needs attention from Lenovo.
