thinkpad x100e oddness! HELP!

#1 Post by JoshuaMcC » Mon Nov 29, 2010 10:15 pm

Just today i got my thinkpad x100e in the mail. It is the dual core version with 4 gigs of memory. I have seen on reviews that it is a pretty fast but mine is all but! to begin with it took over a half an hour just to start up for the first time! and now every time i try to go someplace online it will say that the program is not responding... This happens on every website! i at first thought it was just the wifi but then it started happening when i was just typing on word! or working with any other program! some programs i cant even open! and now my newest problem it won't shut down properly, i wait over 5 mins and then have to hold down the power. so my question is what is the problem?!? is it me or what?!? and what do i do?!?

I'm sorry to hear of your bad experience.
I have a dual core with 4gigs ram and it is snappy and fast... so your x100e is in the wrong; not you.
One of two problems:
1) Software issue
2) Hardware issue

Try reinstalling all drivers and uninstalling all Thinkvantage Managers software.
If that doesnt work, try a fresh install of Windows from this link:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/windows ... efore.html

Now if a fresh install of Windows doesnt work... I'm betting on a hardware issue:
Try re-seating the RAMs and your Hard Drive... if youre not comfortable with this then DONT.
Otherwise: Warranty

BTW... I wouldnt try anything with BIOS until the very last. You wouldnt want the x100e to freeze in the middle of a BIOS update. That ruins lives

Service:

But you also might call the sales line and tell them you got a lemon and you want a new unit. It is worth a try.

I should reinstall everything from zero (fresh install) using Rescue and Recovery Software

Make a backup of your data and

Restart and press F11 to invoke the Rescue and Recovery Software.
or
Restart and press enter. It will show you a list of options, select then F11 for Rescue and Recovery

Restore your data.

I hope it helps.

Did you take a look in the “Task Manager” at the “Processes”. Sometimes Windows Defender or the anti virus software take over the cpu and block communication.

If it’s constantly over 50% of cpu all the time, try disabling it for a while.
Now: W510, x100e L335
before: R60, x60s, T43, T42, A31, etc....
