X100e right hinge creaking/stiff....

Hi

I purchased my X100e in September 2010, love the machine and overall impressed with quality, just recently though the right hinge seems to be a little stiff when closing the lid, you hear a dull "creaking" sound when you do, it's not the plastic breaking but sounds more like something flexing somewhere. Is this something I should worry about do you think?

I would worry. There should be no sound when opening or closing the lid. Warranty is on. I would use it.

Had it collected for repair wednesday last week, got it back thursday this week. New hinges fitted apparently. Job done, happy with Lenovo again! :)

I bought my x100e in late July '10, it was made in late June apparently.
I noticed a week or so ago, that it makes a 'crack' sound when I open the lid, seems to be from the left side (hinge).

Being the cheapest Thinkpad I hope it's not the least reliable of the series (i.e. heat & hinge issues).

Anyone knows if the standard 1yr warranty (I bought it from Amazon.com) is valid in Europe also ?

I would think so yes, but I would get onto Lenovo NOW since you're close to the end of the warranty and get it booked in for repair if it's still making that cracking sound (is it stiff also?). The repair seems to have involved hinge replacement and it didn't really take much prompting of Lenovo to get it done - initially they thought i meant the hinge had cracked after i opened the lid and told me that was owner damage and thus chargeable (thinking i had opened the lid too far i think), i pointed out that was not the case and they listened properly a 2nd time and agreed to do it under warranty. I would call them, now!

Given that my girlfriend has an Edge 15 and I've used that briefly also, I think the X100e is a much better built and more solid machine by far so I don't think it being the cheapest X series will mean it's not reliable or robust, but I guess time will tell.
