Hi I just ordered an X100e for an executive lady at work who currently uses an old X31 and after having very good experiences with Thinkpad X series laptops myself owning an X31 and now an X60s personally after looking on the lenovo site I recommended an X100e.

Anyway one of the reasons was she often uses a Tmobile dongle with her X31 and has trouble with the tmobile dialer so one of the reasons I recommended the X100e was the fact that it was listed as having integrated WWAN so I am assuming I can stick the tmobile sim card in their and use lenovo access connections instead of the dialer. The only problem is the listing is vague for the WWAN instead of saying what card is in the notebook it just has a tick box saying 'Integrated Wireless Wide Area Network upgradable' which I ticked.

What does that mean does anyone know the exact spec?

I use the same method on my X60s after using DC-unlocker to unlock the built in WWAN and it works fine with tmobile using the lenovo access connections software for me.

I don't see that this selection has any WWAN at all. It says "Integrated Wireless Wide Area Network upgradable", which means that you can purchase a separate WWAN card and install it in the X100e. The SIM holder and antennas would be in place from the factory.

A Gobi 2000 WWAN adapter would have been added at an extra cost if you ticked the box. The Gobi 2000 can be used with any mobile carrier, it is unlocked. The SIM card slot and antennas are built-in.

It is also a multistandard card: can be used around the world (including AT&T in the US) in gsm/umts/hspa mode and in the US with CDMA (Verizon and Sprint).

Finally it has an integrated GPS receiver.

Yes and yes. Many carriers even have one day plans, so you can use whichever carrier you desire.

Thanks for the advice the notebook has arrived now and has no WWAN card installed, so I am looking at ordering a Gobi 2000 if she will be happy with the cost. I was a bit surprised by the price they are asking though lenovo want £150 GBP but I have found them for £100 elsewhere and they say they are for thinkpad so should work.

If you aren't planning to travel in the US (and use verizon or sprint) you can search for the lenovo branded fg3507 sonyericsson modem, it should be cheaper and it's still a great modem, and can be used also in the us whit AT&T (I'm not sure about T-Mobile USA because its non standard frequencies)
