Hi,
I have an X100e with single core processor. It has Win 7 prof. I just ordered an Intel 160GB ssd and have some questions about installing.
1) Can I just replace the old hard drive with the new SSD and connect my old through a USB port?
2) can I copy everything from my old drive to the new SSD and how?
3) I read somewhere that there is a way on thinkpads to copy my data from the old to my new drive
Do I need to download Intel SSD Toolbox? to do this.
Is there a good description somewhere how to replace the old drive with an SSD including how to copy all the info?

Yes, obviously you need an usb external adapter (often provided with the ssd in the retail kit)

Just clone the HDD to the new SDD with one of the dik imaging sw provided paragon, acronis...(often provided with the ssd in the retail kit) then swap the disks.

I don't know, but follow the way @point 2 you can't be wrong.

No you need the toolbox just as a periodical diagnostic/maintenance activity of the ssd.

Really it's easier to do than to explain, the cloning SW usually are pretty autoesplicative

Abe; wait, wait, wait: What I suggest you do is the get the FREE Acronis Migration Tool provided by Intel; see Intel Solid-State Drives to Ship with Acronis Data Migration Tool and Acronis Migration Tools Now Offered With Intel® Solid-State Drives pointing to the free downlaods at Intel Data Migration Software download center.

What you should do is to download the manual --> Intel Data Migration Software Help and the software --> Intel Data Migration Software. Use the "Clone Disk Wizard" to clone your old HDD onto your new SSD. Mount the old HDD in an exernal USB-case, and mount your new SSD in your ThinkPad (this is an important thing to remember!). If you have an external USB-drive, then I'd suggest you make a CD containing the bootable media: Choose "Create Bootable Media" in the Tools menu. You can also run the Bootable Media Builder without loading Intel Data Migration Software by choosing Programs → Intel → Intel Data Migration Software → Bootable Media Builder from the Start menu. Boot from this CD with your new SSD inside the ThinkPad and the old HDD in an external USB-case, and then do the cloning.

Please report back about how it all goes! If you need more information about the Acronis Migration Tool, then turn to Acronis' homepage and download the manuals there (although they are probably dealing with newer versions than the free one from Intel).

As I said, often the migration tools are provided by the manufactures

Everything worked flawlessly. Thanks a lot.
I am a little disappointed with the speed. It is not as fast as I read in some posts. (they called it lightning fast)
Maybe because I have a slow processor. But I am happy with it.

My X100e boots in 14 seconds (escluding POST) with a low end sdd, I call it lightning fast

Obviously the MV 40 doesn't helps it's really too slow to give a good experience with seven.

BTW be sure that your SDD is correctly aligned (it should, but a check manually or with "paragon alignement tool" to be sure is always suggestes)

Beware of the many negative user feedback for Paragon Alignment Tool; see e.g. Paragon Alignment Tool and see the very recent thread on this forum by a wellknown ThinkPad expert, RealBlackStuff: Screwed up on XP install

I think that shouldn't be Albert Einstein to understand that doing something to the partitions is still a slightly risky task.

And I have to add that a disk just cloned is just a clone, you can lost all the disk w/o losing anything. In the worst case you have just to clone the disk again.

Do I cant' see the need to scary the users, specially in this case where probably the disk is already aligned.

BTW I used PAT dozens of times w/o any problem. As always appended in years of use of any other paragon disk tool.
