New HDD and Lenovo Enhanced Experience

#1 Post by falcor87 » Wed Mar 30, 2011 8:48 am

Well it's almost time, new x120e is on schedule to be delivered this afternoon.

First thing I'm planning on doing is a hard drive upgrade to a Seagate momentus xt hybrid. What is the easiest way to do a direct copy of the installed OS onto the new drive? First, I don't have a windows install disk and second, I would like to keep Lenovo enhanced experience on the machine (mostly for improved boot times).

So far from preliminary research I think I may be able to burn recovery disks to USB (or external HDD) with this:

Please share your comments/suggestions, thanks!

Disk Cloning with G4U

#2 Post by danieldavid » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:30 pm

I've used G4U freeware to clone to a new HD

You'll need a second PC as an FTP server and a router or an external enclosure with USB interface for your new HD.

Worked perfectly for me.

If you don't have a CD drive with USB interface, you may be able to make a bootable USB memory stick. I've never tried it - please let us know if you do.

You can use several products.

I did the same thing with CloneZilla ( http://clonezilla.org/ ) and a USB external drive. It is a good practice to take a copy of the drive from time to time since installing windows, apps and patches can be loooooong.
Now: W510, x100e L335
before: R60, x60s, T43, T42, A31, etc....
