Power Button = Instant Shutoff (X120e)

I have a strange problem where sometimes when I push the power button, the computer shuts off immediately then tries to restart and I get the startup recovery for Windows 7. I have the latest BIOS version, 1.11 and have done all the Windows updates + Lenovo updates. It still does it even after all the updates.
It doesn't do this all the time, just every 1 out of maybe 25 times I push the power button. Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem.

It's set for Shutdown. I have set it like this on all of my other Thinkpads and works fine.

Well, I changed it over to Hibernate and have been using that for a few days, and it's still doing this instant shutoff business.
I have done all the Lenovo updates, BIOS update and Windows updates and still have this problem. I'm starting to wonder if it's a problem with the hardware. I really hope not, I love this little computer

Go into the BIOS menu and see if it does it there...

That's a good idea.
I'm trying another thing at the moment as well. I am trying the computer just on AC without the battery in. I don't seem to be having this problem when on just AC.

Well, I just started this test with the battery now and after 2 shutdowns, it did the instant shutdown thing again. Now I am going to try it in Setup.

I'm having this problem too - power button is set in power manager/ACPI to put the computer to sleep, but it immediately shuts the computer off without going through normal shutdown procedure. When it comes up, Windows reports it shut down abnormally.
I wonder if Lenovo is even aware of this problem.

Well, I had a little luck with Lenovo. I called support and they told me to check the new BIOS version that was put out.
So far so good, it seems to be working fine. Of course, every time I say that it does it again lol

Which new BIOS version is that? I'm using 1.12 and have the problem - I don't see anything newer than that on the support site.

Sorry for the long response, I haven't been at home much lately.
I am currently running BIOS version 1.12
Since updating, it has only shutdown incorrectly once. It's actually been quite nice to be able to use the Power button again, but I still try to refrain from it because of possibly damaging the hard drive.
I really do hope they get a final solution to this. Little bit of a piss of since they have been making computers with this capability for a number of years now

Agreed - the power button should be sending a signal to the OS, for it to determine what to do with. It shouldn't do an immediate hard shutdown. You'd think they'd get this right.
