Realtek Wifi battery consumption

#1 Post by Colonel O'Neill » Wed May 18, 2011 3:00 am

Curious; how much power does your Realtek wifi adapter consume for you guys? It seems quite power hungry to me just by being on.

For example,
In a purely idle situation at 6/15 brightness for my X100e, the following occurs:

Wifi off via Fn+F5: Predicts 4h12 on 51%
Wifi on but not connected: Predicts 3h18 on 51%
Wifi on and connected right next to an adhoc from T400: Predicts 3h20 on 50%

Using the latest driver from Realtek.com.tw (2020.1.311.2011)

I did a similar test after seeing your post, setting is in Power Source Optimized, 6/15 brightness, no BT, SSD, idle and 98% charge.

Wifi on connected to router: 6h39m
Wifi off: 6h59m

Hmm. I thought my adapter was consuming way too much power. Not sure what's causing it though.

Maybe when it's not connected it's constantly scanning using max power?
