365E - replacing the DSTN panel with a TFT one?

#1 Post by my03 » Sat Oct 01, 2022 3:28 pm

Would it even work?

I have the DSTN version of this machne (AMD 100mhz cpu) that has this screen option with two adjustment sliders on the assembly and i got curious if it would be a straight swap to essentually use a TFT in its place (or if the entire screen assembly needs to be replaced or worse, if the (active) TFT requires a whole different connector against the machine itself??

Assuming the LCD itself is the same size, you’ll at least need the TFT connector, typically the STN and TFT LCDs need different cables. The backlight inverter board may also not be compatible, but that’s less certain.

My advice, having been down this road is to simply replace the lid, containing a TFT LCD, inverter and ribbon.

I think if you attempt to replace just the panel, you'll find the ribbon doesn't fit and you'll find the inverter doesn't work.

You're essentially turning the big difference in the machine from an E into a something else anyway, so the lid label may as well reflect that.

Hi astral and solidpro, very valid points, thank you for that :)

I found the HMM vol 3 and saw that the parts for all these (inverter, etc) differs so it would make much sense to try to find a complete assembly:

LCD Assembly, 10.4-Inch TFT (365E Only)
(LCD Cover Kit, Panel, Inverter, Cable)
FRU 75H7618

I guess physically it would only be the above assembly that fits (or does any 365 model assembly fit?)

I know it's a massive longshot but I have many good, complete 755CX complete lids/lcds - would one work?

Very much appreciated solidpro, but i'm not sure it will fit. I found these images in their respective HMM and it does not really look alike :(
