SVGA Models:

XGA Models:

Once you download the file, open it and it will create a floppy disk fro you to boot from. When you have the BIOS disk and you boot from it, follow the on screen instructions.

XGA models have LCD's that display 1024x768. SVGA models have LCD's that show 800x600.
Another way to tell is looking on the bottom of the case. If the number is 9546-u9a, u9b, u9e, it's XGA, everything else is SVGA.
If you are still unsure, create a BIOS disk for both, and the one that is correct will run on your system, the other will give you an error message before it even starts.

It'd be sir and I'm glad to have helped. If you need anything else for your 760E, IBM removed just about everything from their US support site, but I found a page on one of their Spanish language sites that has links to all the drivers and what not you'll ever need for the 760. Although the site's Spanish, all the files they have for download are English versions.
Here's the link to that page:

Since you are an expert in these things, I might as well ask you a few more q's:
1) In the BIOS setup menu, I did not see any option to boot directly from CD-ROM. The choices are:
FDD-1, HDD-1, Network, FDD-2, HDD-2, HDD-3, HDD-4, and PCMCIA. Would the upgraded BIOS fix this? If not, how does one boot from the CD-ROM?
2) Since this machine can only have either a floppy drive installed or the CD-ROM drive installed, how does one load an OS where you start off with a floppy and then you need to install from the CD?

The 760/765 series can't boot from the CD-Rom. To install an OS that requires CD-Rom, there are a few options. If you have an external floppy drive, then have the CD drive installed and the external drive attached. If you don't have the external drive, then you can boot off a floppy that has the CD drivers for DOS, set the hard drive up to boot into DOS and have the DOS cd drivers on it so you can have thecomputer boot to dos from the hd instead of a floppy or if you have an external CD drive (I have one laying around somewhere that uses a PCMCIA SCSI card), hook that up and see if you can find DOS drivers for it and have them on the DOS boot disk.
