Thinkpad 760xl Monitor Problem

I've got a thinkpad 760xl with a broken screen... it booted fine and you could even see the start button in the bottom left corner, but you could not see what you were doing. So I bought a new screen for it off ebay. It came and it looks beautiful compared to my old one, no scratches or anything. I hooked it up it has identical connections and works fine has a great picture. The laptop now will not boot in windows. While booting Windows 98 it just shuts off during the process. i thought maybe it was a windows flaw so I booted off a win98 bootdisk to DOS and it still shuts off. it seems to shut off after a certain amount of time.. the battery just gives out. has anyone ever encountered a problem like this before? what could i have hooked up wrong to make it act this weird?

Sounds like something might not be seated properly.

man i just haven't been able to figure it out and it's hardly worth it for such a crappy old laptop. i wish it worked it runs so great and stable (for what it is) when it DOES run.

How quickly does it shut off?

Have you tried booting the machine with only the AC line attached and the battery removed?
