NEC 6100 or 6500 DVD Burner in 600x

#1 Post by marvelousmarvyd » Sat Apr 16, 2005 11:36 am

Has anyone tried installing a NEC 6100 or 6500 DVD +/- rw drive on the Thinkpad 600x with any success. I just received a 600x 2645-4EU in pristine condition for $125.00. I've tried running an external dvd 16x dual layered burner with no problem, but I want to put an internal burner in the unit. If anyone has been successful could you post the results through this forum before I go out and buy this unit. :D

I've successfully installed a Toshiba SD6372 CD-RW/DVD-R/+R/-RW/+RW in my 600X, by simply swapping it with the original Toshiba CD-ROM/DVD drive that came with my machine -- using the drive caddy and bezel pieces from the original.

For more information on my searches and for a brief discussion of which drives will allow you to use the same bezel as an original 600X IBM branded, Toshiba-manufactured optical drive, check out the following thread:
Find the right optical drive to fit 600X

Phil.
