New hard disk in Thinkpad 600E

Hi, I am a happy owner of a Thinkpad 600E PII 400MHz (dont have the exact model number right now, but it shouldn't matter for this question, I think...)

I want to change the 6.4GB harddisk to something bigger. I am thinking of buying a Samsung spinpoint M40 2.5", either 40 or 60GB. I just want to make sure that this will work without any (big) problems!? (what I am worried about is if there is a maximum harddisk size that is supported or that there are compatibility issues or something else...)

Also my battery went flat for two years ago and I am now thinking about replacing it with a new one. I have read about the battery issues soo many seem to have with the 600 series (new batteries only last for a couple of months etc.) With my last battery I could use the computer for 2-3 hours depending on what applications I was running, and the battery was good for about 2 years. Is it likely that I will run into battery problems when/if buying a new one? Can anyone suggest a good place to buy a battery (preferably they should ship to Europe)

Regards

Update your BIOS to the latest. Once you do that, any drive up to 137GB will work. The drive might not be as fast as in a faster machine, but if you get a 5400 or 7200 RPM drive, you will see a vast improvement.

IBM is selling batteries for $59 right now... to the US. I would check their site for your location. I have not had the short-lived battery problem with any IBM or no-name batteries.
