i Series 1400 power question

#1 Post by SLuR » Fri Apr 22, 2005 12:35 am

Like many other 1400 users, I have the flimsy DC pin problem. Well, I absolutely *suck* with hardware, so instead of taking it apart and soldering it, I was wondering if the 1400 "dock" (yep, glorified port replicator) will pass the power to charge the battery. It all connects through the "dock port" on the back, and there's the barrel plug on the outside. So, I am wondering if this is a viable workaround to the crappy (ahem) design of their connectors. I will barely be using the laptop plugged in, so using the "big" port replicator is not a problem once it will charge my battery properly.

Thanks for taking the time to read and reply (please reply :D )

Yes, if you have a dock and/or port replicator, you can use that to power the computer and charge the battery.

Thank you *very* much for clarifying this for me. I really did not want to have to take it apart or befriend an electrical dude. Now, if anybody has an i1400 dock (05K5591 or (05K5594) they'd like to sell me, simply drop me an e-mail (simon AT 0x90 DOT org). I'll find one on eBay if nobody does. Thank you for your help.
