thinkpad cpu problem

first off let me say hi to everyone,im sorry my first post will be one for help.two weeks ago a coworker gave me a 600e 2645-3au,pent.2
300mhz.128ram,4gb hd. i swapped the hd for a 40gb and purchased a 366 mhz cpu. the laptop was working great,until i swapped the cpu.i was very careful,but now it wont even boot up.i put the other cpu in(300mhz) and it wont work either. any help will be appreciated..

If this didn't happen until right after the CPU replacement, you probably have someting either unseated and/or short circuited. Also try holding the reset switch down for several seconds and removing all power sources and the cmos battery and letting the system sit for a few minutes.

If neither of those two things work, download IBM's Hardware Maintenance Manual. Somewhere in that book is a list of procedures to follow when your computer won't start. Let's just hope that if you do follow that list, you don't reach the end. The hardware maintenance manual isn't a fairy tale, that book usually has something in the lines of sending your coputer to get serviced at the end of most of the checkout lists.

well after rechecking everything again,i found out that stupid me did not have the cpu pushed in the whole way.started up and got a 161 and 163 error,reset clock and time and rebooted and it works great again..

No problem. Glad we didn't make it to the check list, let alone the end of it.
