IBM Downloads and Drivers, Throws up "I agree" ove

#1 Post by codestar7 » Fri Apr 22, 2005 7:01 pm

I'm no neubie to Downloads from the internet. But at the IBM site either they have wiped their actual FTP server or I've just gone goofy. All I get when clicking on a link is the ULA over and over and over...Whats up with this? I don't have pop ups blocked or any weird thing like that..any one find another site where the files are stored for a 770ED? I need the 14.5 TFT video drivers and the multiMedia files, I'm running windows 2000 right now..
Thanks...................................Chris
P.S.S. I can't get the LapTop itself on line with out these files so I can't use the auto detect.

I'm not having any difficulty with the site for my T41. I just downloaded new ethernet and battery maximizer updates. I always unclick "Use the Download Director" - I am a do-it-yourself person. But when I click on "I agree", the download starts straightaway. ... JD Hurst

jdhurst, you have a T series, IBM fully supports those.

It seems that just about any computer made before made before 2000 is being purged by IBM from their website and whenever a file is found, IBM deletes it shortly after. I downloaded all of my drivers from one of IBM's Spanish speaking support sites, but apparently, IBM found out that the site had helpful files for older computers because it's already down. Good thing I was smart enough to save the files in a backu folder.

Look around on some of the IBM support sites for othr countries and doing a Google search. www.driverguide.com also might have something.

If all fails, see if any of the 770 owners on this messageboard have any drivers.

AlphaKilo470;

The 770/E/ED/X/Z files all appear to be available to me through the appropriate Device Driver Matrix for these machines (IBM Document ID: DSHY-3PGT93):
Software and Device Drivers - ThinkPad 770
All I get when clicking on a link is the ULA over and over and over...Whats up with this?
I've had similar difficulties before using Opera v.7.54 to access the IBM site, especially when I have disabled JavaScript/Java and/or set my cookies permissions restrictively. It is also possible that this problem arises from a transient issue with the IBM servers themselves. In any case, I have been able to go back to the same pages and download the same links using different settings on a different day. Have you tried accessing the page using Micro$oft IE 5.5/6.0? And finally, I also follow jdhurst's suggestion above and unclick "Use the Download Director" when I get the pop-up download window before clicking on "I agree" - I have run into a variety of difficulties with different browsers when I tried to use the Download Director.

I think you mean the 14.1" TFT display drivers, and if I"m not mistaken, Windoze 2000 included built-in drivers for the 770ED audio and video. The only thing you might be missing is the MPEG driver, but that only applies if you are using DVDExpress:

I don't think they are purging the 770 files just yet, are they?!? That would mean that the 600 series files would not be far behind, which would be a bit of a PR disaster for IBM support services at this point. The 600 series includes many models made before 2000 but still represents thousands and thousands of users I would guess.

Thanks PKiff, I suppose I could load up the "Opera" web browser for downloading at the IBM site. I havn't used "Opera" since, ..oh...bout 2002. Tried it for grins as I do a lot of things.....didn't seem to aplicable at the time. I'm running the Latest update on the crappy windows 6.0 browser in the "XP" bill gates final addition..lol. I don't think its lack of hard ware or software on this end. I've unclicked the "IBM download director" button. If they provided a normal FTP link as well as their prioritary site it might help. Somehow I don't think I'm the only pencile in this box. I can pretty much refurb any 770 with the software I have on disk. It was just frustrating because I saw some relevent win 2000 drivers on the IBM site and every search or link lead back to these drivers at this site but when I would go for the ULA it would just pop back up over and over again..Makes you wont to display the code and tear into it.......they'd ban me though......and that wouldn't be good.

Just to be clear, I did not intend to recommend that you download Opera in order to use the IBM site: I meant that you should use Internet Explorer, since other browsers (including Opera) might cause browser-specific problems, but MSIE would have to work, because IBM would never design a site that wasn't functional in the most recent versions of MSIE.

So you still can't download the files even from the links above? If you are still not able to download, then I wonder if maybe you are behind a firewall or something. Have you got your JavaScript enabled? Cookies enableed? A pop-up blocker maybe? A virus scanner intercepting the file?

I don't know why you would still be having this trouble.

> If they provided a normal FTP link...
I think they do have an ftp link somewhere as well, thhough I don't use it and don't know the best address to access it from.

For the OP - is it possible that SP2 is blocking the download because of your security settings? Look at the top of the main IE window for a yellow bar with blocking info.

Ok just to check I downloaded Opera...and it at least gave me an error code...funny thing it posted an "Eleagal Site" erratta...I checked all the afore mentioned items before I started this thread..I believe some how Norton is interfearing with MIE..the security bar no longer appears at the top of the web page..and hhmmm tis will stand some further introspection....
