Battery (or empty shell) for TP701?

#1 Post by Edward Mendelson » Tue Aug 14, 2012 7:57 pm

Every now and then, I fire up my ThinkPad 701. The last time I noticed that the battery (which I had foolishly left in the machine) had leaked. Fortunately, it did minimal damage, but of course I can't leave it in the machine. Is it possible to get a replacement or even an empty shell that would fill the opening in the case? Any suggestions gratefully received.

EDIT: I see that some vendors are offering 701 batteries for about US$50. Does anyone have any experience with them?

My grandpa has a 701cs, i use it occasionally. it had sat in its case for about 3 years leaking, the front is all bulged and stuff, it was almost impossible to remove the battery. I recommend next time that you remove the battery when your not using it.

At $50 i'd check it out to see if its good, if it is then it is. If it isn't then send it back, don't buy it without at least a 30 day warranty.

Speaking of batteries, know where you can get a cmos battery for these? Its annoying having to go through bios to get it to boot.

Also, it has win 95 on it, seems sluggish, should it be? its also taking up almost all of the 710mb disk, its got errors so i want to flash it over to another drive, possible a 8gb ide ssd. Whats the biggest drive this can support?
