I wiki'd it and some models came with 100mhz fsb pentium 3 cpu's.

I need to know if it supports 133fsb cpu's (1ghz p3) or just 100mhz (900mhz p3).

I have a pga 800mhz cpu laying around, but it has a 133 bus, so if it takes 133 i'll just use it.

Also whats the ram limit on it?

I'm not necessarily sure that you can swap the Celeron for a Pentium in these units to begin with...

Even if you can, it will be 100MHz FSB only, and the fastest one there was 1GHz Coppermine.

RAM limit? 512MB. Possibly less. It's been a long time since I've seen one of these opened...

But given that machine is missing quite a few bits and pieces, why would you want it in the first place, unless you have all the spares available? Keyboards for these are somewhat of a pain to find, not to mention anything else...

There's a 570 for the price of shipping in the Marketplace...at least it's a real IBM unlike "i" series...

Thanks for the info. I need a cheap laptop I can back up my stuff on. I've got some spare parts for ibms and a gateway including a big hard drive. My dell is acting up a bit so I figured I'd be prepared for it to do something stupid again.

Quite aware this model is made by acer. One of my friends got a I1482 from his teacher, it appears to work well for him.

For that type of money - or a few bucks more - I'd be looking into a barebone T23...which will take 1GB of RAM and run XP reasonably well...but that's me...

Correct.

Unlike I series, parts supply is abundant and the machine itself is generally very sturdy.

I found a R52 for $41, intel video, all it needs is a hard drive and a power adapter(which I have), even the 15" 1400x1050 screen from my r40. I think this is a better deal: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lenovo-ThinkPad ... 1e727b58c2

You'd need a different LCD cable in order to utilize that SXGA+ panel on the R52.

But apart from that fact, a far better deal than any "i" series...

Ok, I counted my precious moolah and came up $3 short. There are some other ones, the cheapest is identical and needs an inverter, would the inverter from the r40 work in the r52 screen?

No. You need an inverter from a R52, not R40.

I haven't quite understood the rest of your post...

I saw the different part numbers and figured that.

Good thing is My dad had me vacuum up the sawdust from his knife making experiment and let me buy the good one for $40
