I have a Thinkpad 760EL Type 9547-U4F. This Thinkpad though old is in 'as new' condition. However both batteries, the large NI-MH in the rear and the smaller Li-LON in the front are shot. They will not take a charge whatsoever. However, I dont care about portable use, it runs fine on the IBM AC Adapter P/N 85G6704,
FRU 85G6705.
So heres the deal. My wife's hobby is cooking/baking. She wants a new kitchen and with that request, she wants a computer on the counter to store her Recipes.
The computers only mission in life will be to display text files of her recipes. This morning, I loaded the Thinkpad 760EL with her recipes, trashed all other un-needed files/folders, and put short cuts to her various categories on the desktop.
It works beautiful and she is thrilled.
Now the question. Can I remove BOTH old bad batteries so they are no longer in the Thinkpad and just run it on the IBM AC Adapter ? Or does the power circuits require seeing a battery on the circuit ? If so, can this be jumped somehow to get rid of the batteries.
I fear that some day the old bad batteries may start to leak or even worse cause a fire.
Please remember that portable use is of no concern, I will always be on AC Adapter Power.
Many Thanks

Remove Batteries, run on AC only
Re: Remove Batteries, run on AC only
I've never owned a 760 series ThinkPad, but the first laptop I ever owned was a 770 that did not have a battery at all. I ran it that way for a couple of years before I finally bought a battery. I've run most of my newer ThinkPads without batteries installed also, without any problems. In fact, a few of them that had truly bad, dead batteries, had issue that the battery itself was causing. Getting rid of the old battery solved the problem.
