701C Ill-fated... tearing itself apart?

#1 Post by Medessec » Mon Apr 22, 2013 1:19 am

I've had this 701C for some time, and I've got spare casings for it, and I've been amazing my friends who are slightly interested in classic Thinkpads.

However recently the mechanism that activates the keyboard doesn't work that well anymore, and cracks have been showing up at the hinges and the back lid of the casing. Note that I got this 701C from a gold recovery box, and that the original casing(sadly) is all scratched up and severely corroded by the battery. I've since removed the battery, but it's still not in any good shape.

But basically, I'm afraid to mess with it at all, so I've set it aside. I'm wondering whether I should part it out, since it has a 720MB Hard Drive with Windows 98 installed on it, and it boots and runs it very well. It also has a perfectly good screen, original 486DX mainboard, perfectly good keyboard, and other nice bits. I'm sure other 701 owners would love to have spares such as these, just in case. But it's hard to look at this 701 and think that it's beyond saving, maybe I should post pictures. I don't know... based off this information, what do you guys think?
Trying my hardest to collect Thinkpads, but college and being broke kinda gets in the way. However...
