I purchased the Samsung M464S3323CN0-L1L 256MB PC100 16 chip module on ebay yesterday and it arrived this morning, which was nice

He said he has more so if you are looking to upgrade your Thinkpad 240 memory to 320MB get buying!

For installing Oses, what I did is copy the CD to empty partion over the network, using a PCMICA NIC and installed it from inside 98. During install, you can format the C: drive since the CD files will be on the new partion (D: drive). Installed 2k and XP this way.

Does anyone know if this chip will work in a 570 and how much ram would actually be recognized?

I just added a 33L3070 128MB module to my TP240 and now it has 320 MB of RAM! Hurray! It doesn't seem to be much faster than when it had only 192 MB though. Is that normal? What programs would benefit most from the additional memory?

@ pianowizard: What version of Windows are you using? If you're using 2000 or older, you won't see much difference until you run several apps at once - then you'll never go back to low RAM.

I am using Windows XP SP2! So, where should I see the biggest difference? The time it takes to start up? The number of programs I can run simultaneously? Web sites load faster? Or something else?

i have build an original IBM 256mb 16 chip ram on an IBM 240X notebook. The Bios has seen it as 256mb ram , but the os ( WindowsXp and even Windows98) won't sart, they hang up..

have you any solution on this ? Maybe with an bios update, this bug can be fixed.

Can you ask please in that chinise board about that problem, maybe someone can solve this bug with an custom bios update.

Unless you've tweaked your XP install for RAM usage and speed, you should see improvements in boot time, switching apps, starting apps, doing stuff in Windows, etc., etc.

I saw MASSIVE improvements in all of that going from 256MB to 384MB in my Dell. Granted, it wasn't a VERY tweaked XP install, but it was still tweaked some.

oooh yeah. If you are running a 240 with a modern OS, you pretty much want that 320MByte limit.

However, does anyone here run into lockups with their 240s when running on 320MBytes of RAM? Mine seems to lock up once in awhile with weird display errors and whatnot.

I might have experienced that yesterday. I turned on the power and the display wouldn't light up. I had to turn it off and power it up again. This was the first time I had ever had this problem with a Thinkpad.

The memory on board is 64MB PC66 whereas the 256MB module I added is PC100. Could that be why my machine is not running as fast as a 320MB machine should?

What are the timings on your PC100 module, versus the timings on the onboard PC66?

If the PC100's timings are slower, that could explain it, especially if there isn't a timings table specifically for PC66 on the module.

Just purchased a Thinkpad 240. I have a couple of sticks of Crucial memory but could not find info on if they are low density. Will I be able to get 320mb from this stick in my, I believe, 2609-21U (its a 300 celeron) thinkpad?

Earlier in this post it was said that the 440BX set is capable. According to this pdf file from IBM the 240 has a 440DX set.

m1ch431_g, I doubt this stick from crucial would work because it appears to be high-density.

Unfortunately, this stick will not work for two reasons:

1. Its PC133, which is too high. Try PC100 or PC66.

2. It is high density. Look for modules that have 8 little black squares on each side. This stick has 4.

what do you mean, if i will take solder out the onboard 64 mb memory and just use a 256mb PC100 16 chip ram in memory slot ?

do i have do change the bios information ? i thin, no.
