[Solved] 380ED display damaged after attempting to add RAM

After adding a 16MB EDO module to a 380ED, and turning it on again, the display became corrupted.

Text is unreadable, what appears is akin to very strong interference in an old analog TV set.

Removing the module did not solve the problem.

Is there anything I can do before declaring it dead?

Edit: display and/or inverter dead, replacing with new ones solved the problem.

Connecting an external monitor I got image. That is very odd.

The internal monitor still does not work.

If you connect it to an external monitor and can still get correct image, then the motherboard is still fine. Your 380 has not died yet. Most possible explanation is that there are some loose connections on the LCD connector. Or the inverter card may be defective. Both need you to take the machine apart to repair. So do it carefully, make sure that every connection is secure, and see if the problem is solved. The RAM card may not be the cause. It may even be all fine.

Reassembling the unit didn't solve the problem, so one of those, display or inverter is damaged.

I got for about 20 dollars a 12.1" TFT display with inverter, made by Samsung. 11J9623, date code 03/97. I installed it and the problem is solved.
