755C Keyboard issue

#1 Post by Kasm279 » Sun Oct 06, 2013 4:43 pm

I finally got around to getting a PSU for the 755C my friend had given me a while back, but unfortunately the `,1,a, and z keys do not work. Does anyone have any idea where the failure might be? I already checked where the ribbon cables connect to the motherboard, they're fine.

I'm guessing that something like that (keys physically located near each other) would be a problem within the keyboard itself and not something in the cabling. Could be a broken trace on the board that is common to those keys. The "Q" key works does it?

Err, I somehow managed to miss the q key when I was listing those, the proper list is `,1,q,a,z. However, the modifier keys on the left side all work. I can't seem to figure out how to disassemble the keyboard, either...

All of the Thinkpad keyboards I've dealt with weren't really designed to be taken apart. I've not seen a 755C keyboard but I don't expect it to be too different. I think the best thing to do is replace the whole keyboard. I can only find one on eBay at the moment and it's listed at $20. You could post a WTB (Want to Buy) message here in the Marketplace forum and see if a member has a spare.

Blah, I'll have to try digging at it a bit more, then. The machine is just one my friend gave me and isn't quite worth the money to get it working again, unfortunately.
