TP 760XL CD-ROM Upgrade (Diskette Drive Replacement)

#1 Post by JGTC.co.jp » Sat Oct 26, 2013 4:22 pm

Hello Everyone!

Now that the 600E is -working-, it is time to get my 760XL to work.

I have a 9547-U9C unit, its diskette drive (ASM 41H8697, FRU 29H9230) doesn't work properly, so I am not able to communiacte the laptop with the rest of the world (I have tried infrared between this one and my 600E, with no luck whatsoever; I even try to look at both sensors with a camera, but there is no IR emission from anyone). I have replaced the diskette drive with a CD unit (ASM 02K4097, FRU 02K4090), but it is not recognized by the installed OS (Win98 SE), not even the BIOS. If I swap the devices, I am able to wiew and test the diskette drive in the corresponding EasySetup screen, but that's not the case for the CD-ROM drive.

-Is this CD unit fully compatible with most 760 series laptops?
-I was thinking of flashing the BIOS with a 760XD image, does it work? If it doesn't, should I try to patch it by looking at the differences between that BIOS and my current one?
-Perhaps should I need to change anything else (jumpers, connectors, etc.) even on the System Board?

Thanks in advance.
