can't get a Thinkpad 240 to boot from the external cdrom

#1 Post by lvnash » Thu Dec 12, 2013 11:53 pm

I have a Thinkpad 240. I don't see it listed anywhere in the model-specific forums. I have lost the operating system and cannot get it to recognize the Hp m280 external cdrom drive that came with it new. (It was ok before the op system was lost.)

My best bet is that the CD-ROM in your unit is broken.

Here are the FRUs for original replacements:

Try to find one on eBay or whatever. Good luck.

if you have lost the operating system you will need to download the drivers for the cd-rom from Lenovo if they are still available. Then they will have to be extracted to a floppy disk. Then, assuming you still have the external floppy that came with the 240 as well, you can then use the cd-rom to re-install the operating system.
