Thinkpad 600x battery not charging issue

Hello everyone and thank you in advance for your interest, this is my first post. I recently got a thinkpad 600x which appears to be in great shape except the primary battery refuses to charge (the battery LED flashes yellow constantly whether the machine is on or off). I am running windows 2000 and without the AC plugged in, the machine will die within a matter of seconds. At one point, while installing an update, the setup program asked me if the battery was fully charged. Being in a hurry I just said yes. Ever since then, the battery will not charge at all. I'm figuring that the battery is dead but I was just wondering if anyone knows how to reset or clear the chip in the battery that monitors charge status. I just want to be sure that the unit is dead before spending the money on a replacement. Thanks again and I look forward to your replies...

The battery is dead. Don't leave it in the machine if the LED continues to blink amber, could lead to problems with the unit's DC/DC card.

There are several sources for NEW batteries on eBay. Don't buy a used one, regardless of how it's described by the seller.

James

Well, as mentioned above, the battery is dead and you will have to find another FRU to replace the dead one. This can be pricy and pain to find. I myself acquired a 770z as indicated in my signature and the battery only hold 5-10% of its charge for a 6 year old laptop. Remember that these batteries are Lithium based and don't carry a good life span of over two years, a reason why NImh batteries are so much popular.

Hello James.. Could you recommend a good eBay Seller? I am currently exploring battery sources for my 770x. Many of the sellers don't put "new" in the battery descriptions, but they claim that the battery is "guaranteed" "holds a full charge" and "not DOA".

I tiried an ebay seller who guaranteed their used 600X batteries. The first one was DOA; they were apologetic and sent another, which was also DOA! At that point I returned them both for a refund. Bottom line, I'd go for a new one.

If cost is an issue, a poster previously linked this source for refurbished batteries. I haven't tried them, but suspect they'd be a better bet than ebay if you don't want to spring for the new one. If you send them your old battery, the rebuild is only $29.

If you order from them, please come back and let us know how the battery functions.
