Thinkpad 700

#1 Post by Cola » Fri Feb 14, 2014 6:37 am

Hello.

I am currently working on a major school project. I chose to work with the design and technology evolution in Thinkpads, for the last two decades. I am comparing the design aspects between the original Thinkpad model 700, and the modern 2012 X1 carbon. Also I am having a go at seeing the influence the original Thinkpads has had, on the modern Thinkpad design.

And in that, I would be very very grateful, if any of you lot perhaps would send me some photos of your Thinkpad 700 (or one that is similar). Also, I need to know what materials it has been constructed from. I have already tried searching far and wide through these forums and Google, with no luck so far.

I would greatly appreciate any help on this.

Thanks in advance,
Frederik.

Get a copy of the book _ThinkPad: A Different Shade of Blue_ --- I believe that it covers the original design / process in detail.

Also, check your library for old computer magazines --- the TP700 was widely reviewed and I'm pretty sure construction details were mentioned.

Thanks a LOT for the advice on this book. I wasn't aware of this book, but bought it on eBay just now. Nice read while the evenings are still dark here in the north.

If your project ends up in a report, feel free to share it on this forum. I am sure many of the users here would like to read this. Good luck!

Thanks guys.
The project will end with a report, although it's in Danish. :P

As I'm really low budget (low, as in I have 10$ left for this month (living at home)), the book isn't a possibility. The project is due on wednesday next week, so some pictures would be very much preferable.

I will upload it then, once I have finished. Hopefully this will be later today, or some time tomorrow. A requirement for the report, was that it could not be more than 5-8 pages in length (excl. pictures and links)
