The keyboard may work fine, but what about the trckpoint, My VERY first 600e had this problem, and the trackpoint wasen't working right, if you can find out how to disable it, then your good to go with a PS/2 mouse,
good luck.

You can try diabling the track point in IBM setup -- hold F1 while booting. Another idea -- try an external keyboard and see if that helps. IIRC the computer will default to an external KB if one is present... but I could be wrong there.

If I'm reading this right in the Hardware Maintenance Manual, it is the pointing device causing the error.

I don't think so, I haven't seen anything that allows you to disable the trackpoint :x but I am sure there's a way to do it from the BIOS hex editor. I remember my track point would only move sideways.
new keyboard

The OP didn't say what machine this is, but in the 600X there is an option to disable the trackpoint completely.

Starting at the following link, enter the information for your ThinkPad, then you can get to a page for downloading the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your laptop. In there, you will find the part number for anything you need to replace. Search ebay.com pricegrabber.com or google.com just by typing in the part number in the search box. You should be able to find what you need at a good price.

Or he could just go look at item #8 in the FAQ...
