PCMCIA CD-ROM drive not working properly on 701C

#1 Post by sega_dude » Fri Jun 20, 2014 1:05 pm

I am having trouble getting my PCMCIA CD-ROM drive working on my 701c. It is running DOS 6.22 and Windows 3.1. I already have working PCMCIA card services on the machine. I installed the drivers for the CD-ROM drive from the floppy it included. It installed a driver to detect the PCMCIA card itself (PCMI80CL.SYS) and another to detect the drive itself (STATPCDM.SYS). The drive is detected and D is assigned to it but I can't actually access CDs in DOS or Windows 3.1. If I try to access a CD, the computer locks up and it eventually says there is no CD in the drive, even though there is. The PCMCIA drive is some generic unbranded thing I bought off eBay a few years ago. It has a TEAC drive inside. I tried OAKCDROM.SYS but it didn't detect the drive. Any help would be greatly appericated.

Are you sure the drive works on another machine?

I just got a Panasonic KXL-807a and couldn't get the thinkpad drivers to understand the card. They seemed to map a drive letter for both PCMCIA slots automatically even if no devices are inserted.

My driver disk had a different driver to control the PCMCIA controller directly atas365.sys so I wound up removing the thinkpad drivers and using that directly along with the driver for the pc card.

Its a total longshot but I guess I could zip up my driver disk if you want to see how it'll react for your drive?

NT and 95/98 accepted the drivers much more readily.

Sure, it's worth a shot.
