Legacy Thinkpad 365ED problem
Hey there!
My name is Tom and I'm new to this forum.
I started collecting legacy IBM machines and some time ago I found some pristine looking Thinkpad 365ED. As I can see, there isn't much info and resources regarding this actual model - it's really not popular, as opposed to 760, etc. (which I also own, next to X230, W530 or R30).
I wanted to ask you guys if there is any place I can get bios update for this model? I've done some research, but no successs.
I also wanted to ask about PCMCIA Compact Flash support. I have inserted FAT16 formatted CF card (16 bit Sandisk adapter). The led is flashing, but Freedos (i did not installed nor want to install any Windows) does not recognize any additional drive. Do you by any chance know the solution?
Best regards,
Tom

Re: Legacy Thinkpad 365ED problem
Welcome to the Forum.
Here's a link to some more 365ED info: http://ps-2.kev009.com/eprmhtml/epr2b/h4570.htm
Maybe someone also has a BIOS file? Wait and see (and be patient...)

Re: Legacy Thinkpad 365ED problem
The BIOS file update can be found on any IBM PCCBBS mirror, search for "S36B2141.EXE" (notice: only for 365/C/CS/CD/E/ED, NOT for 365X/XD which use a different BIOS file)... probably need a working battery to update however?
365 was not as popular as 760/755, I believe it was the consumer model of the time

For Windows 95** Users
----------------------
This release of BIOS includes Plug and Play resource information for the
IRDA infrared port. Windows 95 does not currently load any drivers for
this port when it is recognized, so you may encounter problems running
Puma Tranxit or other Windows based IR applications. To correct this
problem perform the following steps:
1. Boot up the system to Windows 95 desktop.
2. Go to the Device Manager.
Go to the Ports. "REMOVE" all COM Ports.
(Do NOT reboot).
3. Go to MSDOS prompt. Go to C:\WINDOWS\INF directory.
Type EDIT MSPORTS.INF and press ENTER.
Go to "STD" section of this file.
Change the following statement:
%*PNP0510.DeviceDesc% = NoDrv, *PNP0510 ; IRDA Communications port
TO:
%*PNP0510.DeviceDesc% = ComPort, *PNP0510; IRDA Communications port
4. Save the changes and reboot the machine.
5. Verify that the "Ports" in the Device Manager show the following:
-- Communications Port (COM1)
-- ECP Printer Port (LPT1)
-- Generic IRDA Compatible Device (COM2).

Re: Legacy Thinkpad 365ED problem
Thanks a lot guys!
I have already made to get the bios update. I just love this machine is 5x86. The only thing I still want to do is to get some 640x480 TFT to replace this [censored] - yet retro - DSTN. I already got the bezel from 365XD (which I got for parts), but unfortunatelly it has a hi-res (;) 800x600 TFT.
