Older ThinkPads.. from the 600, the 7xx, the iSeries, 300, 500, the Transnote and, of course, the 701

Motherboard swap question for Thinkpad 600E

#1 Post by orbit1979 » Sun Jun 12, 2005 12:17 pm

I currently own a IBM Thinkpad 600E, type 2645-8AU. My current motherboard has a bad memory bank (i tried diabling that damm onboard memory, tried PC66 and PC100 memory). It has a PII-366Mhz processor. I was wondering if a IBM Thinkpad 600X PIII 500MHz MMC-2 System Board would fit in this laptop. This would be great, I could use both memory banks (since I already bought 2 128mb PC-100 sticks but can only use 1), and I would have a faster processor.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

No, the 600X motherboard won't fit in the 600E.

Well technically it won't fit if you buy JUST the board, buy one that comes with the bottom chassie, they usally do, Like right now, the thinkpad 600E that I'm on, has a 600x keyboard, but a 600E motherboard, and a 600X lcd, I thaught that the 600X motherboard would fir, but it sounds like james know what he's talking about, so just find one with a bottom chassie
