Thinkpad 365XD left and right clicker button repair

#1 Post by TMac365 » Sun Mar 12, 2017 6:26 pm

Greetings,

A few weeks back, I picked up a thinkpad 365XD from a flea market. Upon bringing it back home, I found the left and right clicker buttons weren't working at all, although the rest of the keyboard was fine. So far I've just connected a mouse to do anything, but I'd like to know if anyone here knows how to open up the keyboard and fix the darn things.

As well as this, I've got a dead battery for the laptop and I'm wondering if anyone could give me advice on how to repair/rebuild it.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum. If you look at the links located at the top of the page, you will see one labeled "HMM" which means "Hardware Maintenance Manual". Yours can be found here:

https://thinkpads.com/support/hmm/hmm_pdf/tpvol3.pdf

The manual will tell you how to open the computer and replace components.

Unfortunately the manual makes no mention of how to open up the keyboard. Thanks for linking it anyhow; it's quite helpful for other things.

I think that the suggestion to consult the HMM was more along the lines of helping you to replace the entire keyboard, as opposed to figuring out how to 'open' it up for a repair. It may be possible to pry off the keycaps (buttons) and see if there's anything underneath which may be interfering with the operation of the switches but in some cases, if not done right, you could actually break the caps so that they don't snap back on. Which means you'll need to replace the keyboard anyway.
