760LD LCD 640x480 or 800x600

Can somebody confirm that 760LD has a 640x480 TFT LCD. On Thinkwiki it shows 640x480 in one place and 800x600 in another place. I pretty sure its 640x480 TFT. I want one but I don`t wan`t DSTN or 800x600.

I have a complete lid with XGA (1024x768) screen that's suited for a 760E or 760EX.
Don't know it that would fit yours.

I don`t actually have a 760LD but I would like one eventually but I want to confirm that it has the 640x480 LCD because I won`t have to deal with old applications scaling wrong in 800x600 from 320x200 and I want the CD-ROM drive.

Basically I want a machine with 365CD/755CD specs but without the rarity.

A few years ago I attached the 800x600 display from a ThinkPad 760E to a ThinkPad 760L. You'll get a picture but with some distortion and it won't be usable and you won't be able to use all of the pixels of the higher resolution display.

I had a similar issue when I tried attaching an 800x600 display from a 755CX on a 755CD; got distortion and could not display properly even though I was using a Pentium board; interestingly, the DX4/100 board accepted the 800x600 display but AFAICT no 755CE ever shipped with 800x600 from the factory (unless it was a CTO option?), so I'd think the enhanced video board is just not compatible with the 800x600 panel

As far as I know, the 755CX is the only member of the 755 series to support an 800x600 display. Also, FWIW, on the later PCI based 760s, you could replace the 800x600 display with a 1024x768 panel if you also replaced the video board with the appropriate part. That being said, you might be able to use an 800x600 display on a 760LC if you also replace it's video board with one from a 760CD. Don't quote me on that though as I have way more experience with the later PCI-bus 760s (E, X) then I do the older VESA Local Bus models (C, L).

Not particularly. The L and LD were marketed to schools and government agencies. They're pretty much de-tuned 760C/CDs with smaller displays that only ran at 640x480 and in lieu of the mWave audio/modem combo, they have an ESS AudioDrive (that can be a plus or minus depending on who here you talk to and what OS you run).

Well no kidding, the 'X' is third gen vs 'E' second gen. It was 1997, computer updated extremely quickly unlike today(as you probably already know)
