SELLING MY VINTAGE LAPTOP COLLECTION
SELLING MY VINTAGE LAPTOP COLLECTION
I am starting listing my collection on eBay. Here is a link:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/-/252977304517? ... RK:MESE:IT
Feel free to bid confidently, that is my new SELLING account.
There will be FREE SHIPPING for forum members in the Continental USA and deep shipping discounts anywhere in the world. If auction is won, shipping will be refunded for USA forum members.
Since it is a new account, there is a maximum listing limit but it will soon be lifted and I can post more items, eventually my WHOLE collection.

Re: SELLING MY VINTAGE LAPTOP COLLECTION
I feel bad for you and if I could I would give you a million for all those machines so you could pay your medical bills and get your collection back. Unfortunately I can't buy those machines at those prices. I wish you the best of luck with the auction. Just I want you to do one thing. Keep one machine, clean it up to the best of your ability and make it your own as best as you can as a memory of all that help you .
Just make sure there is that one laptop you have for when you want to plop down and play doom without emulation, write without a bad keyboard, or just remember what good thinkpad owners who recieve your machines and keep good care of them.

Re: SELLING MY VINTAGE LAPTOP COLLECTION
Sorta similar on how for 200$ I got a mint condition IBM PC 5150. Someone in north NJ had a machone they wanted to get rid of but thry treated it like it was their child. 30 years under a dust cover has really protected it. The biggest flaw is a tiny red spec on keyboard. Came with software and monitor and everything. That 75lbs dot matrix printer was a DRAG to bring in the house. I had to put the monitor in a seatbelt there was so much stuff.

Re: SELLING MY VINTAGE LAPTOP COLLECTION
You should either change the Tbilisi, Georgia location in your eBay account, or create a new eBay account with location Arlington - VA, USA and post your items there.
Personally I wouldn't like this kind of eBay info:
International items may be subject to customs processing and additional charges.
Item location: Tbilisi, Georgia
Ships to: Worldwide
Delivery: Estimated between Mon. Jul. 24 and Wed. Aug. 9
This item has an extended handling time and a delivery estimate greater than 14 business days.
Please allow additional time if international delivery is subject to customs processing.

Re: SELLING MY VINTAGE LAPTOP COLLECTION
Thanks for your suggestion. I will make some changes definitely. BUT:
All my items are in USA, so no international hassle for US buyers.
BTW, it is my spouses account and she convinced me to sell my collection on ebay (faster funds for my treatment) and she is overseas, so changing account is out of question
As for buyers outside of USA, shipping and other issues will be negotiated on case by case basis for now.
I have very little experience of selling, as I am a collector and not a merchant and to be honest, do not want to be one It's just life which is forcing me to sell my precious computers but I guess a man has to do what he has to do...

I'll gladly take a keyboard from an existing 760 if you got one from a nonworking spare unit in your collection. Mine has a few dead keys, unfortunately.
Otherwise, it's WTB threads for me!

BTW Khipata, you should probably invest in a better camera of any sort. Atleast to me, the machines look in worse shape than they actually are.
Its like if you take a picture of a shiny object in the shade, it doesnt look good in the pictures.

Re: SELLING MY VINTAGE LAPTOP COLLECTION
I don't suppose you have any batteries for sale? I'm looking for some good candidates for rebuilding. Ideally, a 760 NiMH or 755CE/CD series NiMH. The ones I have all have massive corrosion, and I don't know the battery layout for the 760 NiMH (unless I can source one from the internet somewhere for parts). I've already successfully rebuilt 2 750 series batteries that currently run for about 5-7 hours on a charge.

Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.
The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

That is a long fricken time! Didn't the originals when new last for maybe 30-40 minutes?goldeneagle wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2017 7:44 amI've already successfully rebuilt 2 750 series batteries that currently run for about 5-7 hours on a charge.

Which I probably don't have, because I stopped drinking soda 4 years ago!Thinkpad4by3 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2017 12:26 pmSome cocacola should remove the corrosion no problems.
Not that I recall. If I remember, it was maybe 1.5-2 hours with the "dumb" battery. With the 750 series battery, I never had one of those brand new, but used, maybe 3-4 hours on a 750 with a monochrome screen. I'm going to still chalk it up to the vast improvements in NiMH since 1994, among other things. I also wonder if battery life would be even better if I'm using NT, OS/2 or Linux on these machines (since the processor won't be at 100% utilization all the time like with DOS/Win9x).fultontech wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2017 12:47 pmThat is a long fricken time!
