I have a 770Z that has a P3-450 upgrade installed and all bios upgrades installed as well and is running Win98SE.

I tried to install the Windows XP upgrade and the installation provided me with a lengthy list of items that were not compatible with the WinXP system. I stopped the install to figure out what to do. Items such as Thinkpad Configuration, DSP, Internal Modem, and others came up on the list as not compatible or possibly not compatible with the upgrade and would be either disabled or removed during the installation.

Anybody know if this is just the installation program being too conservitive and went ahead and installed anyway with success? Or do I just give up on the XP upgrade?

Don't try to upgrade, just completely format and install, boot up your computer by holding F1, goto startup, and make sure cd-rom is a boot up option, bootup with the cd in the rom drive, and follow the directions Just save any data you want, same thing with my 600E, if you format and install you'll be ok.

Unless your looking at keeping your data(which there are numerous ways to back up)......I would suggest doing a fresh clean install of XP......The only driver it doesn't load on install is the Mpeg Feature Drivers for the DEVA card if you have it...if you do,just use the W2K drivers for it,they work perfect in combination with Windows media player...

Make sure the laptop is set to boot from CD....Boot from it....when it asks to install or repair,pick repair.....type fixboot then y to perform it......then type diskpart,and delete the partitions present...then create one large partition....then type format c: /fs/ntfs (this erases all data..!!!)...when done,type exit....upon restart,the machine will automatically boot from the install cd....install this time....!!!!

Then you need to download and install..XP Configuration Files... Configuration Utility....Battery Maximiser....and then the Mpeg Feature drivers if you have the DEVA card installed...
